15-20 Minute Clutter workouts

(Do 2 -3 times weekly or more until the room is  clutter-free)

You will need:   Garbage Bag

Box labeled:  Donate/Sell

Basket or 2nd box

Kitchen Timer

Choose the worst most cluttered area to begin.  Set the timer for 15-20 minutes.  Begin going through your stuff.  Use the basket for things  that belong in another room.  Do not stop to reminisce, just keep going until the timer goes off.
When done, put everything back. Throw away the garbage, if it isn’t full, put the donate box in the garage or storage area till next time. Take the laundry basket around the house and put all the items in their proper rooms.
Now, step back and enjoy your work!

The best thing about these workouts is that they are even better than physical exercise, because you'll see results right away and you can lose 50 pounds…just by taking out the trash.

Some Organizing Tips...

* Find a place for everything.  Everything should have an ‘away” if I came to your house and handed you something and told you to put it away, is should have a place to go.

* start small, one shelf, one drawer, one cabinet at a time.

* declutter one room at a time, work till it’s clutter-free

* Create a routine, do the workouts in the morning or evening, whatever best fits into your schedule.  You should be doing the workouts maybe 2-3 times a week or more depending on your clutter volumn, then maybe 1-2 times a month once everything is in order.

* use a timer, it gives you a starting point and an ending point and it help you to go thru your stuff and make quick decisions.

* Set some small goals and write them down.
(ie: I want to have the hall closet organized by the end of the month)

* Get your whole family involved.

* Play some uplifting music.

* Get someone else to do it.  if you’re having a hard time getting started, get someone to help you out.

* To get yourself motivated, plan a fun dinner party or girls night at your house.  This will give you a deadline for getting your house in order.

* Use under the bed storage. This is an excellent spot for extra blankets, books, comforters, etc. You can purchase containers designed specifically for this purpose. Some even have casters that allows easier access.

* Buy a wicker or ceder chest to replace coffee or end tables. These items look great and offer easily accessible storage.

* Store extra blankets between the box-spring and mattress.

* Place an ice-cube tray in your dresser drawer to hold small jewelry and trinkets.

* Keep your sheet sets together. For each set, fold top and bottom sheet and any pillow cases. Stick them all in one of the pillow cases for neat storage and easy access.

* Leave a few fresh plastic bags in the bottom of each garbage can. When you empty the garbage, a new liner will always be handy.

* Install a row of big cup hooks onto a wooden coat hanger. Use it in the closet to hang belts, scarves, ties, small purses, etc.
